On October 17, 2022, Executive Director McCormick and Staff Attorney Bertig served as panelists at a Pittsburgh-based Bail Reform & Pretrial Justice Town Hall and Speak Out. The event was hosted by Magisterial District Judge Mik Pappas and featured panelists from the ACLU-PA, Civil Rights Corps, 1Hood Media, and other relevant stakeholders. During their portion of the program, Ms. McCormick and Mr. Bertig addressed the statistical pitfalls and downstream consequences that result from the use of poorly tailored pre-trial risk assessment algorithms. The event was live-streamed on Facebook and received coverage from local news stations.
