Press Release: Commission Applauds U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision Declining to Hear Challenge to PA Rule 8.4(g)

Via press release on May 3, 2024, the Commission celebrated the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court to decline to hear an appeal from a Pennsylvania lawyer challenging Pennsylvania Rule of Professional Conduct 8.4(g). The Rule, for which the Commission and others have long advocated, prohibits attorneys from knowingly engaging in harassment or discrimination in the practice of law based upon one’s race, sex, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic status. As applied, the Rule will protect vulnerable and historically disadvantaged members of the legal profession and promote public confidence in the Pennsylvania justice system.
